Briefs about College
Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu is the only College of Agriculture within the regional enclave of the South-East geopolitical zone in Nigeria. It was established as school by an act in 1955 and integrated as the Training Wing of the Agricultural Research and Training Station (ARTS), Umudike in 1964. ARTS was given a federal status in 1972 as the Federal Agricultural Research and Training Station (FARTS), and then renamed as National Roots Crops Research Institute, Umudike in 1976.
After the first accreditation exercise in the School by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in 1989, it was renamed Federal College of Agriculture, Umudike. The College subsequently relocated from Umudike to Ishiagu, Ebonyi state in 1991. The mandate was to develop and organize high quality practical oriented training with dynamic curricular to produce self-reliant technicians and technologists at National and Higher National Diploma levels respectively for sustainable agriculture and human development to meet national and global agricultural challenges.
Briefs about the Department
Department of Agricultural & Bioenvironmental Engineering Technology (ABET) has a long history of progressive development and transformation from a Engineering Division (as the name was called then) to the present day department. As a division, it rendered services to the various existing Departments, other Divisions and Units, including the vegetable, poultry, piggery farms etc. in the College. Following the relocation of the College to Ishiagu, Ebonyi state in 1992, it continued these services including vehicle repairs, electrical/auto-electrical installations, repairs and maintenance of tractors and agricultural machinery, as well as other engineering utilities.
In 2007, the Division was renamed Engineering Programme by the administration of Dr. L. S. Eluagu. The Programme, headed by Engr. P. S. N. Onyekwere, faced initial resource inspection from NBTE team towards the mounting of ND, Agricultural engineering in 2008 and was successful. The Department commenced the running of National Diploma programme in 2009 under the administration of Dr. Paul O. Ajah, the programme was upgraded and split to two: academics and works programmes.
The academic programme was be known as the Department of Agricultural Engineering Technology, with Engr. E. C Okafor appointed the first head of Department. Engr. P. S. N. Onyekwere was appointed as the Director of works.

In 2012, the NBTE curriculum review embraced entrepreneurship and vocational training and was implemented and the name was changed to Agricultural & Bio-Environmental Engineering Technology. The department was granted interim accreditation in 2013 and full accreditation in 2015, and has already graduated three (3) sets of diplomats. In 2019, the department mounted Higher National Diploma in Farm power and machinery option.
